Cape Town, South Africa: whilst preparations are underway at www.metal4africa.com headquarters to leap the decennial milestone of ten years, there is a fresh focus on what the organization has hoped to achieve within the local community. A part of this focus has been to included a multi-dimensional celebration of this accomplishment, to reach out into the community afresh and reinstate some of our intentions for a sustainable Metal Music and Entertainment Scene in South Africa.
Building a legacy
Apart from our regular bi-annual installations of SummerFest and WinterFest concert/day-festivals hosted in Cape Town – with our 20th event approaching on 30 July 2016 – we have also reached into the realm of archivists and sounded a call-together of all Metal-friendly wordsmiths to join a series of Wikimeets and “edit-a-thons” to further stamp African Metal onto the global map. The second of these took place on 16 July at the Cape Town Central Library, with another approaching in November.
The latest inclusion to our decennial celebrations takes a peek into the essential universe of musical education. Two Cape Town music schools have come forward to aid us in this by offering some FREE lessons!
In the Northern Suburbs (based in Brackenfell), the Jamrock Music Academy have offered 8 vouchers, each for one FREE music lesson. This will give people an opportunity to come in, see the school, meet the team, and decide if they like what they see.
In the Southern Suburbs (based in Claremont), the School of Rock have offered 2 vouchers, but in this case the winners will each enjoy a FULL month’s worth of lessons (4 weeks, 1 lesson per week) to see if what they’d like to try will take root.
Open to any and all.
Whilst our festivals are unfortunately an over-18 affair, anybody can enter for this. If you are a novice musician and would appreciate a guiding hand, this is for you. If you have no background in music but a nagging desire, then this may be the introduction you need. If you know somebody else who could make use of an introduction like this, then why not act on their behalf? Both establishments teach all ages and from beginners to advanced players in guitar, bass guitar, drums and keys.
How to enter.
Get social with us! If you are active on facebook, simply update your status with the statement: “M4A For The Win!” and include the hash-tags #M4Aforthewin and #M4Adecennial; and then, depending which music school is nearest to where you live, also add the hashtag #jamrockmusicacademy for Northern Suburbs or #schoolofrockclaremont for Southern Suburbs. We will select winners on Friday night by means of lucky draw. Everybody who added the tags will be tracked via the tags, and then allocated a number. We will feed the numbers into the website at www.random.org to find our winners and contact them via inbox at the facebook account they posted from. Easy!
