Cape Town, South Africa: so far, 2018 is delivering a mother load of touring bands to our humble shoreline. Another on that list is Californian metalcore band called Secrets, playing three dates in April.
Secrets Album Launch Tour
Secrets released its self-titled fourth studio album last month and has been touring it since. Reviews – and not to mention a listen – tells us that this is the band’s most monumental output to date. This can be attributed to a variety of factors; not least of which includes a few member changes over the years since kicking off in 2010. We asked vocalist and long-time member Richard Rogers about how this has affected songwriting and the band’s general direction:
“I believe it’s changed a bit. The biggest change was bringing in Wade and and Connor. All three of us work together so well and this new record is the first time we all got to sit in a room together and write. I believe we have finally organized the proper team and can’t wait to continue growing as song writers.” ~ Richard Rogers
Of course, this is not to say that changes come easy, as Richard’s longest cohort in the band and founding member Michael Sherman departed from Secrets in recent months owing to growing commitments at home. This album will serve as something of a legacy.
“Michael leaving was purely emotional. He’s been by my side since the beginning and, although we’ll always be brothers, it’s absolutely a bummer that I won’t have him on stage with me anymore. He was always the person I would adventure with and sort of like my tour wife, haha!” ~ Richard Rogers
Entering new territories in 2018, physically and aurally
For present members, Secrets is conquering the world. Whilst the Northern Hemisphere, even including parts of Asia, is becoming familiar touring territory, 2018 sees conquest into the South. The band’s arrival in South Africa is the first time in the continent, and the Secrets album tour will include other Southern Hemisphere shows in Australia and New Zealand.
“I have found that the most passionate fans come from the most unlikely places. We can’t wait to see your country and play shows for/with you!” ~ Richard Rogers
Secrets continue to define a genre; blending metalcore with anthemic musical themes as well as an almost punk-rock upbeat sensibility; whatever the recipe, it’s just working to round up a growing following worldwide. Richard told us why the band waited until album number four to decide on a self-titled:
“We believe without a doubt that this record is the record that defines us, so we thought it would be fitting to release it as a self-titled record. I’m very excited about the styles we conquered on this record. I believe we’ll continue to go down the same path.” ~ Richard Rogers
