How often do you hear a radio station playing rock ‘n roll predominantly? Most would answer, “Never!” Right? And how often does a radio station sponsor a battle of the bands competition open to any genre? Most would say that the chances of getting mugged by a flying pig are greater than that happening. Well, not anymore.
Prepare yourselves: Afrikaans Alternative FM (AAFM on 91.3FM), a new radio station playing a mixture of English and Afrikaans rock presents The 48 Band-off. This battle of 48 bands starts on the 9th of July and will be on for a period of 3 months. So why should any local metal band be interested?
Well, for one, the prizes in excess of R100 000 includes musical instruments, full album recording and CD printings. Plus every band that gets listed and takes part in the 48 Band-off will get an individual interview and their songs will be aired live. Yes, unbelievable indeed. So even if your band does not make it very far in the competition, you’ll get absolutely free publicity. Furthermore, this could be a well deserved opportunity for local metal to rise above the rest, as we all know that this is much needed.
Enough said. If you’re in a band and you want to melt-the-mic with your metal (any genre remember,) ask yourselves this: Why not enter?
To enter, submit your bands’ info and very importantly, an mp3 demo to firstname.lastname@example.org before the 5th of July. We know it’s around the corner, so get those mics, axes and drums, start recording and let’s make an effort to support our fantastic metal talents.
