Botswana’s Skinflint, well known for the international curiosity they have attracted for their distinctly African twist on the old-school heavy metal style, have released a new music video this week. The song, ‘Okove’ is from the band’s most recent album Nyemba, which was released in 2014.
“The song ‘Okove’ is inspired by African Black Magic which took place in West Africa during the early 20th Century. Okove is a pendant or fetish imbued with the powers of the animal kept inside it. In the case of the video, a youth is sacrificed and his heart removed. The soul is believed to enter the pendant, and by worshipping it, the subject retains eternal youth.” ~ Giuseppe Sbrana (vocals / guitar, Skinflint)
Guiseppe tells us that the band is currently working on their fifth studio album, due for release in 2016. He declined to tell us much more at this stage, although following many positive reviews (see ours here) on Nyemba, we are expecting another round of gripping African myth, legend and cultural storytelling from Giuseppe and his heavy metal tribe.
