Cairo, Egypt: blackened-death metal band Crescent are off to play in Romania this weekend, further impressing the insignia of African Metal beyond continental borders. Crescent are no strangers to the other side of the Mediterranean, having visited parts of Europe already in previous years.
“Yes, we are getting recognition in Europe bit-by-bit. It’s kind of hard, of course, as it requires constant traveling; but we’ve dedicated ourselves for the past three years now to perform abroad annually.” ~ Ismaeel Attallah (guitar/vocals, Crescent)
Following Wacken in 2014, Crescent were scooped up on tour by the Flaming Arts Agency and visited Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands and Czech Republic. In 2015 they traveled to Norway to play the Inferno festival, and their 2016 outing is coming up soon to play Romania’s Rockstadt Extreme Fest ‘indoor edition’. The outing will see Crescent perform along with bands like Enslaved, Anaal Nathrakh, Samael, Sinister and more.
“It’s our first time in Romania, yes, and we are quite excited about it. Basically, this will be our first time in East Europe, and we believe Rockstadt brings big renowned names. We are happy to be part of this year’s indoor edition!” ~ Ismaeel Attallah
African visitors are no strangers to Wacken or Rockstadt, with South Africa’s Zombies Ate My Girlfriend in fact winning the global Wacken Metal Battle for this year, and South Africa’s Mind Assault appearing live at the Rockstadt Extreme Fest outdoor festival in August. It seems that more regular fixtures for African based bands are soon to become the norm. Crescent are using the opportunity, along with the recent release of their music video, to bring close to their 2014 Pyramid Slaves album cycle and to begin work on a new full length due in 2017.
