The other day, I sat down for a digital beard-wag with the boys from Juggernaught,through the haze of booze and smoke and got to know a bit about their upcoming album. Titled Bring The Meat Back, it is set for release on the 26th of October, 2012.

“It’s been almost a year since we stopped gigging every weekend and started putting all the finishing touches to the songs. After a couple of months of arguing, heavy drinkin’ and ‘poes’-ing each other for the final bit of inspiration, the songs were done. We then went in and recorded everything at Herman’s and sent it through to Jason Groves of Sneak Attack Studios in Lexington, Kentucky, Deep South, U.S.A for the mixing. It’s been a back and forth between him and us looking for the perfect sound and mix for the last few months.”

“That’s all done now, so it’s just the mastering that’s left. It’s the longest we’ve ever taken with Juggernaught or any of our previous projects, it’s also been very frustrating ’cause you wanna go out and play live since that’s the best part about being in a band, but you can’t afford to delay the album by a week or two every time you need to rehearse for a show. The final product is worth it though, for damn sure. And we can’t wait to hit the road with it”

To get over the final hurdle of making an album, Juggernaught also tried something I rarely see other local acts do: they created a kickstarter online to try and get funds for the final stages of production. I asked them why, to which they simply replied: “Well, we need cash for the album and we don’t have any.”

They also told me that a national album launch tour is in the pipeline, local fans and beard aficionados will be happy to know that Cape Town shows are a-comin’.

“Yeah, Cape Town’s always been awesome for us, so definitely. As things stand we’ll be there from the 21st to the 24th of November, so keep an ear out and check our Facebook for details. We’ve got some awesome bands lined up as well so it’s gonna be bad ass.”

The guys did have some final advice for prospective beard growers, because everyone knows beards are for real men: “The best way (to grow a beard) is to permanently remove your tampon and eat lots of meat just before you go to sleep every night.”
