Johannesburg, South Africa: dates have been announced for when the public will be invited to participate in that aspect of activity in choosing winners for the 2017 South African Metal Music Awards.
Since 2016, an Operations Manual (SAMMA 2017 Operations Manual) has been adopted and outlines the process in detail, which ultimately determines which bands active on the scene within a certain date range (the previous year) shall receive a merit. The South African Metal Music Awards (SAMMA) is a growing organization consisting of a number of operatives within the local metal music circles. Participation in this organization as members on The SAMMA Panel include operatives such as Turning Tricks Entertainment, The Metalist, Kontrast, and also private individuals in the industry, such as widely respected sound engineers, photographers and booking agents. Since 2016, www.metal4africa.com has been appointed to serve as an Independent Observer to ensure transparency on how the award selections process is handled.
Whilst the final awarding is entrusted to The SAMMA Panel, public participation maintains an important part in ensuring a balanced view on the awarding. A poll will be opened on 29 May and remain open until end-of-day on 31 May. The poll will include all of the nominated bands and categories as submitted by members of The SAMMA Panel, whereby a public vote will determine which nominations should remain within the top five selections and thus eliminating others from consideration. Thereafter, The SAMMA Panel proceeds to a more rigorous selections process to determine a final outcome from the more limited choice (described in detail in the Operations Manual). An event page has been created which the public is invited to join. It will serve the purpose as a reminder of the dates for when the poll goes live and stays active, and to channel any other information related to the poll. Interested persons are encouraged to join the event.
The official SAMMA Awarding Ceremony will take place on Saturday 01 July at Rumours Rock City in Cresta, Johannesburg, also featuring an evening of live entertainment (to be announced). An official facebook event page, which will be regularly updated with new information.
