Johannesburg, South Africa: the South African Metal Music Awards is operating in full swing to determine a set of recipients who will be awarded for achievements during the year of 2016. Today, a second phase of the selections procedure activates with the public polls, which close at midnight on 31 May (Wednesday).
The objective of the polls is to narrow down the nominations as already tendered by the SAMMA 2017 Operating Manual, this poll does not serve to determine an overall winner. It’s only function is to – with the public’s assistance – narrow down the nominations received from seven (7) panelists to a limited five (5) per category. The five items to score the highest votes in each category will be returned to the panel for further assessment.
The poll will also serve to eliminate bands from being nominated in categories deemed by popular majority as inappropriate. Opinion on these matters of categorization often differ, and among panelists too; therefore in areas where a band is shown to have been initially nominated in more than one category, the public vote will also help to determine from which the band should be eliminated. Therefore, please do not vote for the same band in two categories, otherwise your vote in one of those will be meaningless if your favourite band falls out from that category owing to a more popular vote in another.
Spend your votes wisely! Think about it before you click (access the poll here).
The SAMMA ceremony will be held on 01 July at Rumours Rock City in Gauteng. It appears likely that entry will be free of charge, as the SAMMA steers further towards being recognized as a public service venture. Follow the official facebook event page for updates.
