Cape Town, South Africa: if you like your music heavy, but artful, you may find yourself intrigued by this band rising on a new tide in this coastal city. Shangri ‘Lah aims to deliver it’s metal with a jazzy embrace, and as the artwork and title for it’s forthcoming debut EP suggests, the band is inspired by all of the beauty, majesty and power of the sea and life contained therein. It is suitably titled Embrace The Tide and promises to release in June 2017.
Whilst a new band, and featuring no names specifically prominent to local metal as of yet, the members are geared towards high quality as evidenced in their recording work with the reputable Heinrich Kollner Productions, plus having already established rapport with leading brands such as Ibanez Guitars and Stringless Theory Custom Guitars.
“Heinrich’s deep understanding of the recording process has helped us make our thoughts , ideas and vision into a beautiful reality. We’re truly exited to bring these compositions into the light.” ~ Gerhardus Vermaak (composer/guitarist, Shangri ‘Lah)
Gerhardus describes the writing process as being influenced very much the the ocean, with most songs first drafted on an acoustic instrument by the seaside before being forged into metal at a later stage.
“The music tells a story, progressing from Tide to Tide. Following a natural rhythm that blurs the lines between Psychotic and Serene.” ~ Gerhardus Vermaak
The track list illustrates this further:
1 – ‘Embrace the Tide’
2 – ‘Tidal Satisfaction’
3 – ‘Fins in the Abyss’
4 – ‘Ocean Hymn Eternal’
Embrace The Tide will offer just under 20 minutes of music, and some samples have already emerged with a couple of playthrough videos produced by the band.
