Richards Bay, South Africa: black metal project Sinister Superstar returns with its first full-length album, Bipolar God. Bipolar God follows after two EPs, with the most recent being last years Seeds Of Betrayal. The first EP was a much older work dating back to 2014 with Tentamen Suicidii.
Bipolar God consists of eight tracks with a needle time of just under 40 minutes, and opens up with the Afrikaans language ‘Selfmoord’ (Suicide) as the first single. Vocalist Vernon Eksteen tells of the source inspiration as being himself dealing with depression and mental breakdown five years previously; and ties over to the life he lives today as a survivor.
“Bipolar God was a concept we had since 2013. We always wanted it to come off perfect, with the right atmosphere and at the right time. Matthiassen and myself felt that time was now. We finished the instrumental and lyrics this year and blended in with the old material we had for it before.” ~ Vernon Eksteen (vocals, Sinister Superstar)
He describes the project as being deeply personal and hence first releasing two EPs before the current material, even though much of it existed in some shape or form before.
“This is the first full length album and it was important for us to get it right in every regard; from riffs to lyrics. It had to be perfect and the thing is, it’s not perfect; but the imperfections are what makes the album what it is. We feel this time we got it 100% right on the mark of what we thought black metal should sound like. With our own added flavour.” ~ Vernon Eksteen
