Top 5 Tuesday – Martin Kanja

It’s Top Five Tuesday again where we ask a local musician to talk us through the five tracks that have been blowing their mind lately. This week it’s Martin Kanja of the Kenyan deathcore band, Lust of a Dying Breed!

Circle Of Dead Children – When Human Compost Stains the Earth and Repels the Messengers of Love

The title of this particular song and the dark, sombre lyrics always start my day. The heavily distorted guitar work, breaks and relentless drumming is a plus. The vocals by Joe Horvath are one of the best in the genre!

Plague Widow – Assimilated Subconcious

I’m pals with this threepiece Californian deathgrind outfit and they are true badasses! Guitars by Hal Rotter, vocals by Marc Dickson and Danny Hynes punishes the drums with violence.

Enya – Marble Halls

The Irish poet/singer is a true inspiration. This particular song is about a happy, nostalgic childhood that we are all familiar with at some point of our lives.

Her Name In Blood – Decadence

These Japanese kids really toy with the senses. The video is really sick especially the breakdown, then the jazzy fill that follows. Great stuff!

Bloodbeast – Out For Blood

Grind/death metal from South Africa. These guys went all old school death and the vocals bring an enjoyable, no-nonsense air. I love these guys, Bloodlust was a great record.

Do you have a Top Five for next Tuesday? Send it through to metal4africa@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to feature it!
