Countries along the North African Mediterranean have long enjoyed a rich tradition of heavy metal, as have their Southern counterparts in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and other neighbouring states on the further end of the continent. However, the Northern African metal scene can proudly boast a slightly larger international footprint with their closer proximity to Europe and main tour routes, with bands such as Carthagods (Tunisia), Scarab (Egypt), Anarchy (Egypt) and others having traveled to play shows and festivals in mainland Europe. This is now exhibited as more evident than ever with the soon-to-be-released album by Carthagods, who remain one of Tunisia’s leading metal acts.
The self-titled album will be richly featured with international guest artists, with contributions from no less than: Ron ‘Bumblefoot‘ Thal (Guns N’Roses), Tim ‘Ripper‘ Owen (formerly in Judas Priest and Iced Earth), Mark Jansen (Epica, Mayan), Marcel Coenen (Sun Caged, Godscum) and Zuberoa Aznarez (Diabulus in Musica) are those who we know about at this time. Even the album’s artwork is an offering by Niklas Sundin (Cabin Fever Media) of Swedish melodic metal outfit, Dark Tranquillity.
“I can tell you that this album will be like a ‘best of’ for everything we’ve done during our years so far, and the guests included almost all share some special story with Carthogods” ~ ‘Artak’ (lead guitar, Carthagods)
The band was established already since the late 90’s, making the release of Carthagods a much anticipated milestone for the band, and which summarizes some of the incredible musical paths they have crossed in those many years. We are told that the release can be expected towards the end of February, via German label Hands Of Blue Records. We encourage you to visit the Carthagods official facebook page to join their growing followers and to be first in line for fresh updates.
