The Drift: new guitarist announced, future unveiled

Alec Surridge

The Drift 2019, with Alec Surridge

Johannesburg, South Africa: The Drift is back! Launched inexorably in 2013, The Drift rose rapidly to prominence on the back of a debut album, Dreams of Deluge; and the promise of a trilogy of thematically interlinked albums. What followed were a few years of powerful live performances and extensive touring, plus a second album.

Of course, as with most bands, life has a tendency to get in the way and the trilogy remains incomplete. For the meantime, at least.

“Some may have noticed that Stef is no longer with us. There’re really no bad vibes at all here; the guy is just very busy balancing new-dad duties and career things. Sometimes you got to work a little extra to keep your ship afloat (adrift?).” ~ Louis du Pisani (vocals, The Drift)

The Drift returns! With a new pal!

We, the cats of The Drift, are back. After postponing the 3rd album to make room for all the pals to go about their business, launch a side project (that we loved, no-one else did) and attempt to purge (and fail [see SSIK]) all punk influences in our writing; we got back on the metaphorical Drift horse to finish what we started. The Deluge trilogy. Some may have noticed that Stef is no longer with us. There're really no bad vibes at all here, the guy is just very busy balancing new-dad duties and career things. Sometimes you got to work a little extra to keep your ship afloat (adrift?). Louis faced the same issue with Knave when MK went off air some years back.Enter Alec! Let's be honest here, we have a little rule about who we play with. If you can hang, laugh more than moan, not take yourself too seriously and jam the uninhibited jams then you're the guy. Alec is that guy. Also patience, Alec needed a ton of patience with us. He joined us during a hiatus, not a relaunch. But that has just changed.During our little break we haven't stopped writing for the 3rd album. Louis has been suffering an existential crisis due to the fact that music often zigged instead of zagged. It's honest and definitely a reflection of the last 3 years. Songs we thought would've been a calm inward journey often turned to a punch in the face. The Drift, with new lead guitarist Alec, hits the studio tomorrow, April 4th 2019.We also may be playing a show on the 25th of May.

Enter: Alec Surridge

In keeping with its all-veteran status, The Drift welcomes a new member on board; Alec Surridge. Originally from Cape Town, Alec played in Sacraphyx throughout much of the 1990’s before co-founding The Warninsane in the 2000’s. Alec became active since relocating to Gauteng by joining Chaos Doctrine, and now also The Drift.
