As is already well known, Cape Town’s beloved festival, RAMfest will be returning to its original full weekend format in 2013. Furthermore, the next year will also see RAMfest introducing its first full weekend installment at the the Gauteng leg of the event tour. Since this website is dedicated to the metalheads of Africa, we’re going to focus in on what this means to our community specifically and what can be expected from RAMfest in 2013. Please note that Metal4Africa is only involved in the Cape Town leg of RAMfest, and thus all of the below applies specifically to that event weekend only. For RAMfest events in other cities, please keep an eye on the RAMfest facebook page and city-specific event pages for more information.
Full weekend camping:
We know that few things make a metalhead happier than a lekker metal braai and a weekend of debauchery with your mates. Put in your bookings for leave now! Festivities kick off on Friday the 8th of March 2013, but the camping grounds will be accessible from Thursday the 7th of March. Metal4Africa will host a “metal friendly” designated campsite in the forested area, featuring a sound system pumping great metal and hard rock tunes during reasonable hours.
Facts about the new venue:
Circle Of Dreams is a new “festival farm” concept, unveiling a partnership between RAMfest and Vortex, to bring us the most ultimate festival venue known to South Africa. A short distance outside the Overberg dorpie of Riviersonderend, Circle Of Dreams is a mere 20km distance further from the Cape Town CBD than the former home of Nekkies (outside Worcester). You will travel a similar distance, for a similar amount of time, but at less cost due to there not being a toll gate. The venue has a huge shaded camping area, lush open fields, and a beautiful river alongside the picturesque Sonderend Mountains.
Metal4Africa involvement and what metal-loving attendees can expect:
Three days of metal bliss! RAMfest will bring out some of the regions best loved live metal acts to join the alternative rock & metal stage (operated by yours truly) which will be a monster open-air stage with killer sound and lighting rigs, along with a dedicated Metal4Africa camping area in the forest, complete with audio entertainment (no dance music to interfere with your headbanging) and braai facilities. There will be ample ablution facilities and even a river for those who need to cool off from time to time.
What about the bands?
Metal4Africa will be opening a submissions procedure on Monday 17 September. Submissions will remain open for two weeks (opening on Monday 17 Sept and closing on Monday 1 October) and all details for a successful submission will be made available from that date. Please note that a successful submission does not guarantee a performance at RAMfest, it simply means that the submission is passed on to the RAMfest selections committee for recommendation. For metal & hard rock/alternative acts, this is your only channel to getting your submission to the selections committee. We require a high standard for submissions, as insufficient information or poor quality will be screened. Submissions received during this period will also be relevant to selections for Metal4Africa’s own SummerFest’13 in Stellenbosch, Saturday 2 February. Bands who do not make it onto the line-up for one event will automatically be considered for the other, until all slots are filled. Bands who make it onto neither event will also be carried over to consideration for other Metal4Africa events, such as WinterFest’13. (Although a later call for submissions will again be opened for events so far in the future.)
Owing to the huge amount of work involved in making something like this shape into reality, and the mass of enquiries that flood inboxes and phone lines, the various staff members and partners can not and will not respond to direct enquiries which try to bypass the official channels. This is not an act of discourtesy – but it is the only way we can focus on getting the job done! Many thanks for your cooperation in this regard.
You can follow the Metal4Africa website for official updates, or the RAMfest Facebook page and event pages from time to time.
Some more exciting announcements to be made by RAMfest on October 1st!
