Cape Town, South Africa: this city’s biggest celebration of “Friendship & Metal” is coming up on 02 February 2019 with SummerFest’19. Presented by yours truly, SummerFest’19 will be www.metal4africa.com‘s twenty-fifth event in this bi-annual festival fixture.

SummerFest’19 Line-up:

Without any further preamble, the line-up is as follows:

17h00Southern Death Culture
17h45Halvar
18h30Haiven
19h15Woltemade
20h00Adorned in Ash
21h00Bulletscript
22h00Vulvodynia
23h00Zombies Ate My Girlfriend

Southern Death Culture is one of the city’s freshest acts, but with big ambitions. Established by scene veterans from the late 90s/early 2000s, these men are back to wrap up unfinished headbanging business. Uncompromising Thrash/Death Metal along the veins of Slayer, Sepultura and other relentless influences.

Halvar, another new arrival in 2018, has hit the moshpit running with an EP release already this year, and full album underway for 2019. This productive output demands attention and so we’ll be introducing you to this eclectic Black/Death/Thrash hybrid with charismatic stage presence and lightning shredding.

Haiven brings a change of pace with some solid old-school hard rock. Hailing from the era of L.A. Hair Metal glamour, re-imagined by a new generation, we’re always keen to journey to the edges of our most hallowed genres.

Woltemade is yet another band fresh off the starting block in 2018, but with a twist. The band is an all-star line-up featuring members known from exceptional bands such as: Azrail, Beeldenstorm, Day Turns Night, Imperial Destruction, Infiltrate Neutralize Govern, Mjölnir (Pretoria), SubMission (Namibia) and The Fallen Prophets. What’s more, SummerFest’19 will be Woltemade‘s first live appearance in Cape Town, in spite of already having two tours under the belt (Namibia/Botswana/South African South Coast). Melodic Metal is the order of the day!

Adorned in Ash features the mighty Robyn Ferguson on vocals and lead guitar, South Africa’s No.1 Metal Guitar Lady. Robyn and her minions bring forth a unique spin on Death Metal and an electrifying stage energy. Prepare to be blown away! This performance will also serve as the Cape Town launch for a brand new Adorned in Ash full length album; details of which we will be discussing in news within the coming weeks.

Bulletscript are back with a new vocalist and a vengeance to boot! Catch this old favourite for the first time on the M4A stage with Brett Bruton (formerly from All Guns Full Ammo) charging this powerful Groove Metal act with new energy. Watch the news for an album in the coming months from Bulletscript as well.

Vulvodyina finally make it to our stage after two years of breaking into the international scene. Arguably South Africa’s most successful extreme act, Vulvodynia has more stage experience in Europe than even here at home. We’re thrilled to finally welcome the Lords of Slam into our humble abode. This performance makes up a part of their long-awaited South African tour (more details to follow) and the preempt to yet another album in 2019.

Zombies Ate My Girlfriend hardly need any introduction. Fresh in the wake of another stellar album release, SummerFest’19 will be the first performance by the band following its Shun The Reptile album launch in October. We’re expecting more fantastic things for this international Wacken Metal Battle 2016 winner, including a return to Germany later in the year.

Gratitude

We’d like to take an opportunity to thank our longstanding partners.

Laney Amplification, South Africa, for the almighty Ironheart series guitar amplifiers which offer consistently great service and extremely dynamic settings for the variety of bands we host. Also the RB series bass amps, never letting us down in over ten years.

Mapex Drums, South Africa, for always having us kitted out with durable equipment where it gets throttled the most!

Paul Bothner Music for keeping the fires burning, ensuring that our traveling visitors can travel lightweight and in fact enabling this culture to thrive where many others may have thrown in the towel.

True Believers Membership Club for keeping the figures in line and providing the financial security required to maintain a long-term event tradition such as the one we now enjoy.

Nytrox Productions for helping us to bridge the gaps in entertainment, and sometimes age groups of those being entertained.

Metronome for evolving with us over the last few years since moving the event from Stellenbosch into the Cape Town city limits. The passion of venue management and the efficiency and adaptability of staff is inspiring!

Food Lovers Market, Brackenfell, for keeping rumbling bellies at work from rumbling too loudly so that the Metal can be heard instead.
