Gauteng-based heavy metallers, Agro, have reached their twentieth year in South African metal. This is no small accomplishment in a country where there are only really two cities economically and socio-demographically equipped to sustain fairly consistent local scenes over such an extended period (barely), and lay 1600 Km apart from each other. Nonetheless, in a statement posted last night:
“Twenty years ago to the minute, I was pacing up and down Rocky Street, Yeoville, wondering how or if I would even be able to get over the nerves and actually be able to perform our first ‘professional’ gig in front of two hundred people supporting South African metal legends Metalmorphosis! …9pm, Thursday 17 February 1994!” ~ Clifford Crabb (Vocalist)
Clifford has also pointed out that to date, Agro has released seven full-length albums, performed in excess of a thousand shows, endured two European tours, had been signed to a major label and developed every manner of life friendships and realization of many a dream.
Agro will be performing live at RAMfest 2014, Johannesburg, also featuring USA’s Trivium and Killswitch Engage alongside other locals such as Facing The Gallows, Haggis and Bong, Theatre Runs Red and more. See full details at the official Facebook event page. You can also follow the band at their website or their own Facebook page.
