Durban metal explores ‘Tina’s’ potential

Tinas Invasion 2016

Durban, South Africa

In the live venue-starved city of Durban, local metalheads have decided to explore some alternatives in order see ‘The Metal’ live strong again and potentially find a new home in which the local scene can grow and flourish again. Tina’s Hotel, built in 1941 and previously known as the ‘Beryldene Hotel’, presents an untapped gem with a nice pub and accompanying hall to make up a viable venue option situated on Beryldene Road in Kloof. Local metaller Chase Drewett has managed to get a foot in the door and is hosting Tina’s Invasion this Friday, 26 February, the first event of its kind at the hotel.

“It has a stage area built in and a bar in the hall as well. The manager there says if this one goes well, he will allow us to do it more frequently. I was thinking of doing one at least once every two months, and maybe even a little day fest at some point too; since there is a lot of parking and room for people to chill.” ~ Chase Drewett (bass guitar, Desolation)

With the show being on Friday night, Chase also encourages people to make the best of it and take advantage of the hotel’s restaurant with it’s pub dishes to save time and catch the whole show. Bands include the powerhouse line-up of Deadpandoll, Desolation, Theatre Runs Red and Become The Watcher for a night of devious moshpits in this unassuming setting.
