Cape Town, South Africa: not everyday brings good news, as it is today with Junkyard lipstick announcing their disbandment. Shaped from humble beginnings where four angry women first hit the stage in 2011, the “femme fatale” of Cape Town metal have constantly reinvented themselves whilst still maintaining their core identity. Surviving changes in members seems to have served the band to grow further into the powerhouse of local metal which they have recently become celebrated for, appearing at concerts such as Witchfest 2015 (along with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Kataklysm, Belphegor and more) and our own WinterFest’15 (along with Mind Assault, Infanteria and other local legends); not to mention many other festivals and show honours being bestowed upon them. The ladies have written themselves a page in the book of heavy metal! In a public announcement, it was said:
“General life priorities have changed for members currently in the band. Studies, work and other responsibilities have made it difficult to maintain the momentum.” ~ Lucinda Viljoen (drums / founding member, Junkyard Lipstick)
The announcement comes only weeks after the launch of the band’s Repulsive Judgement album launch, the second full-length album to be release by Junkyard Lipstick, and first to feature the dual-guitar assault offered up by long-time member Louise Gorman and more recently joined Robyn Bruwer, plus the album debut for vocalist Jo Mariè Smit and bassist Kat JvR. No doubt, the album will stand testament for many years to come of the girls’ accomplishment here.
