Krank’d Up Festival: International Headliner

Johannesburg, South Africa: Krankd’d Up festival promoter Turning Tricks Entertainment has announced it’s first international headliner for the fifth edition of it’s popular annual event taking place on 30 September.

From the USA, the giants of instrumental progressive rock, Animals As Leaders, will be descending upon South African shores for a once-off appearance. Between smashing into eardrums with it’s 2009 debut album Animals As Leaders and the fourth album released in 2016 with The Madness Of Many, the band has expanded it’s global reach to be considered as one of the leaders in the genre of progressive music.

“Emotional resonance and sheer technical virtuosity blended in a fusion of metal, jazz and djent has become the signature sound of acclaimed prog captains, Animals As Leaders. Standing at the forefront of the progressive instrumental metal movement, Animals As Leaders will be bringing their much-lauded repertoire to the Krank’d Up stage in September. With four releases under its belt, the band continues to smash boundaries and wow audiences worldwide having headlined tours with the likes of Intervals, Veil of Maya, Plini, Dead Letter Circus and Intronaut.” ~ press statement (Turning Tricks Entertainment)

Incidentally, this will be guitarist Tosin Abasi’s second visit to South Africa. The first time was in 2013 whilst on a clinician tour showcasing the Ibanez guitar brand in Johannesburg and Cape Town (see interview with M4A here).

Krank’d Up 2017 is sponsored by Monster Energy and Jagermeister.
