South Africa’s alternative and underground, it seems, has entered into an unprecedented era of being able to enjoy high quality international live entertainment in recent years. Not least of whom which are spearheading this drive to satisfy local punters are Gauteng-based Turning Tricks Entertainment who have been hosting, among other national tour events, their annual Krank’d Up music festival in Gauteng. Established since 2013, Krank’d Up has featured bands such as Dead Letter Circus, Unearth, and Protest The Hero among a swarm of top local talent.
And now only days away is the 2015 installation of Krank’d Up with Canada’s 36 Crazyfists and United Kingdom’s Monuments jetting in to headline, taking place on Saturday 26 September at Sundowners in Alberton, Gauteng.
Krank’d Up has come to be known in many circles as an event which steers a little away from the more traditional and extreme metal sub-genres which are the bread and butter of this website; and are favoured strongly towards hard rock, more modern metal styles, and a strong dosage of prog-inspired bands, giving the event concept a unique place-holder in the local alternative music landscape.
