Maximum Carnage, whose roots can be traced to a backyard shed in Witbank, began to take more serious shape in the Gauteng city of Pretoria by around 2009. Today the band is recognized as a groove-laden death metal powerhouse, with enough headbanging prowess to have landed them into the 2014 Wacken Metal Battle South Africa finals in 2014. Add to this their growing national fanbase which they began building with a national tour alongside Egypt’s Anarchy in 2013, an across-border adventure to perform at Gorofest in Mozambique in 2014, and a co-headline slot at our WinterFest’14 event near M4A headquarters in Cape Town also last year. Maximum Carnage are on the move to spread their rising legacy! On this weekend of 27 and 28 March, they return to our side of the world for shows in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, to promote a newly released EP, no less!
“Cape Town always welcomes us with open arms. We’re excited to be coming back for the third time with a whole new set! The shows are always kickass because of the people, we have not had a moshpit anywhere we played like the one we had at Klein Libertas Theatre for WinterFest’14.” ~ Wouter Botha (guitar, Maximum Carnage)
The band claims not only to hunger for Cape Town audiences, but also enjoy the opportunity to play with other bands from the region. They’re thrilled with having managed to team up with the line-ups for each night, which includes the likes of Megalodon, Suiderbees, Junkyard Lipstick, All Guns Full Ammo and The Warinsane.
“The Cape Town bands are on another level and we would go to Cape Town just to watch some of them play.” ~ Wouter Botha
Apart from touring and playing just for the sake of doing so, Maximum Carnage are traveling to Cape Town with intent to release their latest EP Just Die containing their new single ‘Jawcrusher’, along with three new tracks and a live recording of an old favourite. There is also talk of a new full-length album to be released towards the end of the year.
The shows are taking place on Friday 27 March at ROAR (299 Lower Main Road, Observatory), and on Saturday 28 March at Aandklas (off Du Toit Street, Stellenbosch. See the facebook event page for details on support bands for each show, and visit Maximum Carnage at their own facebook page for regular updates.
