Megalodon Delivers ‘Obliteration By Incorporation’

Megalodon Obliteration by Incorporation

South African eight-string guitar wielding terror-metallers Megalodon have just delivered a new single today. The stunning artwork, a collaboration between Sean Steenkamp and Vinci Illustration & Design, which accompanies the release tells volumes! ‘Obliteration By Incorporation’ is the second single release since the bands debut album Darkness In Sonance appeared in March 2013. The previous single ‘Apex‘ was released in December 2013.

“All of the songs’ lyrics are ideas, stories or concepts the band and I find interesting. I like to write thoughtful lyrics, instead of ‘generic’ metal lyrics. I find inspiration in science, sci-fi, nature and the mind, which are all connected to some extent.” ~ Thomas Theron (vocalist)

‘Obliteration By Incorporation’ is a case in point of the above statement taken from a previous interview, and ties in well with the quote below which appears as header above the song’s lyric sheet:

“The sources of an idea, finding or concept, become obliterated by incorporation in canonical knowledge, so that only a few are still aware of their parentage” ~ Robert K. Merton (Sociologist, Professor at Columbia University)

The context of the song was further explained to us in a personal statement.

“The song is based on Merton’s social theory on Obliteration by Incorporation. But to put shortly, the song is an adaptation to the theory. It’s about questioning everything we experience. Some ideas get passed on from generation to generation and somehow can become regarded as facts, without any query on why or how. Thus, a thinking society is a better society.” ~ Thomas Theron
