The irony reflected in Pestroy‘s latest album title has proven extremely apt under current circumstances. The band has announced, along with the release of The Speed Of Dark on Friday 13 December, that the band will be going on hiatus for an indefinite period starting in March 2014.
“Our last show is at Ramfest next year. There’s no drama; we are all still best friends. Still loving metal, still loving Pestroy, but this year has been fucking brutal on all of us.” ~ Shane Forbes (bassist)
Shane refers to matters of career, family life, and other generally increasing responsibilities of adulthood.
“After fifteen years, we’re so proud of what we’ve done and if we could do it for a living we would, but that is not possible.” ~ Shane Forbes
The band has many accomplishments under their belts, not least of all being the chief South African representative at many shows in recent years featuring international acts such as Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon and In Flames to list only a few. This is in stark contrast to the first time I saw them personally in a mid-afternoon slot on the small Dr Martens Stage at Woodstock Festival near Heidelberg in 2001; where even then I could tell that Pestroy was shaping into a formidable force on the local scene.
At metal4africa.com we urge all South African metalheads to take a stock in what this band has accomplished in their time and to join us in celebration at their last show of fifteen years. Acquire their album The Speed Of Dark and join us in a monumental send-off at RAMfest 2014 in Bronkhorstspruit near Johannesburg, opening for Trivium and Killswitch Engage on the Red Heart Stage.
