Namibia, on the West Coast of Southern Africa, still remains one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries. Even despite such odds, heavy metal prevails! The mid-to-late 2000’s witnessed the rise of the Windhoek Metal Festival in the country’s most populace city by far, Windhoek (recorded at barely more than 320,000), featuring not only local bands, but usually also top acts from eeighbouring South Africa which boasts a flourishing metal scene.
The festival is being reignited now in 2014 after falling into a lapse since 2010. The legacy has been taken up by the same organizers of the legendary NamRock Festival (full weekend festival hosted around November each year).
This tentative restart features five Namibian local acts, to get the ball rolling towards bigger things in the future. Shotgunlemming are a new name to many locals, and Kvltvk. a young project still building their full repertoire, will kick off the early stages of the event. Moving on to the more established acts, punters can expect We Stand Alone, bringing a more modern metalcore sound to the mix; the three-piece instrumentalists, The Hunt For Higher Ground, with their intricate melodies and passages, and; Within Madness, who bring a taste of death metal to the table.
Doors will open at 20h00, with first band beginning at 09h30. Entrance will cost $80 (Namibian Dollars) at the iconic Warehouse Theatre venue at 48 Tal Street, Windhoek. Also visit the official facebook event page.
