“Secret Ceremonies” Showcases Forward-Thinking SA Music

Last week, Wildernessking presented a video documenting the recording of their song “Soundless Longing” for the split album Secret Ceremonies. The project is a conceptual project is the brainchild of Wildernessking frontman, Keenan Oakes, that began in early 2014 and is set to “showcase dark and forward-thinking South African music”.

The split will feature six South African bands alongside Wildernessking; hardcore outfit Peasant, ambient black metallers Nihil, Durban sludge metal band Strage, an ambient project called Aural Sun and a studio recording debut for prog metal group Ark Synesis.

The evocative and striking emblem for the project, depicting a vulture atop a burning icon of old South Africa was created by regular Wildernessking collaborator, Reuben Sawyer of Rainbath Visual. Additional credits include artwork by Kevin Gan Yuen of Viraloptic handling artwork and Jack Shirley of the US-based The Atomic Garden Recording Studio mastering the final release.

Keep an eye on Metal4Africa for details of the tracklisting and album art for Secret Ceremonies which will be available on vinyl in early 2015.
