Since 2007, www.metal4africa.com has been presenting Cape Town with the regions biggest celebration of all-African metal music. As the end of this year approaches, so comes the time to announce line-ups for the fifteenth installation of our M4A Summer/WinterFest events. With such exciting activities for the local metal community looming in 2014 as Lamb Of God touring in January, and Killswitch Engage with Trivium in March; we decided to focus this event on some of the regions fresher sounds since some of the longer-standing acts are getting to support international headliners this year.

THREAD OF OMEN: arrived on the Cape Town live scene late in 2013, although features some members from previous bands such as Revenge By Dawn and Regicide (both of whom had performed at M4A events in years prior). The band’s sound is extreme metal with a melodic twist and some flashy dual guitar work. This will be their M4A debut as Thread Of Omen.
RUKUZ: previously known as Hellucifix, and even earlier as Shitstorm, has long been driven by a very charismatic and talented guitarist often referred to as ‘One-Watt Matty’. The band perfectly captures the raw, unadulterated energy and passion of heavy metal as known from the days of Pantera and Slayer, amidst others. This will be their debut at M4A, except for vocalist Joe who is no stranger to the M4A stage from performances as frontman with Azrail and Bulletscript in previous years.
SUBVERS: also a newcomer band, but featuring familiar faces, SUBVERS brings a completely different sound to the line-up with their brand of goth industrial. Featuring members from A Walk With The Wicked and Axxon, the band has enough cumulative experience to guarantee a performance not to be forgotten, despite this being their M4A debut.
ARC REACTOR: after delivering their debut full length, Postmodern Construct, and a string of packed launch shows in 2013, the local scene has been abuzz with chatter about this band. They are known to deliver a groovy take on the nu-metal genre, bringing it happily into today’s context and we’re looking forward to their debut on the M4A stage at SummerFest’14.
BEELDENSTORM: having consistently occupied venues across the city for a little more than two years now, including an appearance at WinterFest’12, Beeldenstorm have claimed a loyal following for their intensely headbang-inviting style of Afrikaans death metal. It has been an absolute pleasure watching them climb the ranks from a humble start to the level of respect they enjoy from local metallers today.
ADORNED IN ASH: travelling down from Gauteng to launch their debut full length album in Cape Town, Adorned in Ash represent a darker band from the lighter side with their faith-infused rendition of black/death/thrash metal. They have come highly recommended by some of our Gauteng affiliates and we’re excited to be introducing them to Cape Town audiences for the first time.
SINDULGENCE: also appearing on the M4A stage for a second time, Sindulgence have been invited back as co-headliners at this event. Following the daunting task they set for judges at the 2013 Wacken Metal Battle, it seemed most fitting to bestow this honour to a talented band who play an extremely unique and unusual style of extreme music.
WILDERNESSKING: if they can perform at Under The Black Sun Festival in Germany, then surely they can also co-headline SummerFest’14. Wildernessking performed at one M4A show many years ago whilst still appearing under the moniker Heathens, but have since spread their wings to become a highly acclaimed recording band in the international underground. Their return to the M4A stage in all their glory has been long anticipated!
NEBULA DISRUPT: another newcomer to the live scene in late 2013, but by no means lacking in skill and power! When we saw Nebula Disrupt at both of their first two live shows, we knew at once that we would have to make space for their extreme sounds on this extreme festival. If you enjoy the sounds of bands like Behemoth, you should not be disappointed.
We encourage that you please follow the official event page on Facebook for regular updates and further details. Also check out our audio sampler of participating bands below:
