‘The Awakening’ Return From Abroad To Tour New Album

Any South African who was born between 1975 and 1985, and came into contact with alternative sub-culture in this country should have at least some memories which include The Awakening. This gothic rock outfit came thundering into domination of the local scene in 1997 with the release of their debut album Risen. Their key to the radio charts at that time was The Awakening‘s rendition of Simon and Garfunkel‘s classic ‘Sounds Of Silence’. Many of their own songs reached major chart listings in the consecutive years, even including on mainstream stations such as 5FM. In 2007, the band co-headlined at the very first RAMfest festival before relocating to the USA permanently in 2008.

Having risen from strength-to-strength over the span of almost two decades, The Awakening return to home shores between 20-29 March.  They will be touring to promote their most recent in a long string of releases, Anthology XV.  Support will be provided in each city from local favorites Fspot in Johannesburg, and Terminatryx in Cape Town, plus also including Cape Town’s latest dark rock/metal outfit SubverS.

Full tour details can be found at The Awakening‘s official facebook page and more information about the band at their official website.
