Warm-ups for SA Wacken Metal Battle final

Wacken Metal Battle 2016 South African finals

Johannesburg, South Africa: among the nation’s top Metal acts are mobilizing this week to arrive in Gauteng in time for the Wacken Metal Battle local finals. The showdown takes place on Saturday 28 May at Rumours Lounge where one band will be selected to represent South Africa at the international finals in Germany this August.

Finalists include: Desolation and Vulvodynia from the KwaZulu Natal region; Bulletscript, Subject To Slaughter and Zombies Ate My Girlfriend from the Western Cape region, and; with Killatoria, Octainium and Riddlebreak representing the host province of Gauteng. For additional information, see the official facebook event.

Of course, with so many bands on the road, this means a few spin-off shows will be taking place in the locale which may allow those who are otherwise occupied on Saturday to see some excellent bands live in the days preceding the key event. Gauteng-based promoter Emalyth has kindly assisted some of the touring bands with show bookings on Thursday 26 May and Friday 27 May.

Thursday night features Vulvodynia (KZN) and Subject To Slaughter (WC) alongside locals Killatoria and Surdus at Rumours Lounge with Attack Of The Slams. Event details here. Friday night features Bulletscript and Subject To Slaughter from Cape Town, alongside regional locals Aimed At You, Bleeding Spawn and Maximum Carnage at RAD Experience in Centurion. Patrick Davidson presents: Getting it done by industry standards

Of course, it’s not only bands and fans taking to the highways and air routes this weekend. The judging panel is vast and reaches not only into different regions of the country, but also sees members arriving from abroad. Locally, M4A‘s editor Patrick Davidson will be traveling from Cape Town not only to cast a say in the final outcome, but also to present a workshop in the afternoon preceding the battle. More information on the workshop time and topic can be found at the facebook event page created for it.

Meet the panel who will decide who represents South Africa at Wacken.
