When South Meets South: International Metal Tour hits SA

For anybody who is not yet aware, South Africa is in for a special Christmas Season this year as we get treated to a rare appearance from some South American metal heads!  Whats better is that along with Shajol, who hail from Ecuador, the tour will be joined by Pretoria’s very own Boargazm.  The press release below received by Emalyth:

Emalyth is proud to Announce the South African Nationwide Tour of South American progressive death
metal band, Shajol, alongside our local ‘swinecore’ piggies, Boargazm which will be taking place from the 5th of December until the 15th December 2012.  As an alternative arts promotion brand based in Gauteng and believing in a spirit of fellowship and common interest; and in seeking way to promote all forms of alternative art, Emalyth have put together this tour to showcase South Africa’s great music culture with South African band Boargazm as well as exquisite heritage with the members of the band from Ecuador, Shajol, in a nation-wide tour.

Shajol are a progressive metal band from Ecuador in the humid parts of the South American Continent. The band, made up of experienced and talented muscians, are currently studying their masters degrees at the prestigious Berkee Institute of Contempary Music. They have also just recorded their debut album titled Device of Madness; the release of which will be celebrated on this tour of Africa and Europe to close off 2012. With heavy influences from acts such as Meshuggah and Pantera, Shajol are set to push the limits of metal music.

Boargazm have come a long way in terms of metal music in South Africa. Comprised of former members from Rhutz and Black Cat Bones, the band recorded their debut album The Aporkolypse in 2011. The album has set a new pace for underground metal in South Africa. Classifying their music as ‘swinecore’ which aligns with their ‘pig’ theme, Boargazm released their first official music video Lust in June 2012. The band has grown from strength to strength having opened for Italy’s Fleshgod Apocalypse and performing at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing in 2012.

The tour will span ten debaucherous days during December as follows:

05 December: Rumours Pub, Weltevreden Park
07 December: The Black Dahlia, Boksburg
08 December: Wolmer Rock, Pretoria North
09 December: The Red Door, Pietermaritzburg
11 December: The Green Door, Durban
13 December: Raggies, East London
14 December: DNE Night Club, Port Elizabeth
