Touring is difficult at the best of times. Even worse when you’re at the furthest possible distance away from all major metal festivals in the world. Of course I’m talking about being in a band in South Africa that longs to get a taste of the big leagues. Last year, Cape Town thrashers Infanteria managed to show their metal to a global audience as winners of the South African Wacken Metal Battle, and 2014 appears to be Wildernessking‘s turn.
As if they weren’t busy enough already with three announced releases this year, Wildernessking will be performing at Germany’s Under the Black Sun festival in June, alongside the likes of Belphegor, Inquisition, Mgla and The Great Old Ones (with whom they will be sharing a split later this year).
Now in it’s seventeenth incarnation, Under the Black Sun is a black metal-focussed festival celebrating the underground and keeping the fire burning for all “trve” metal fans since 1998. A definite highlight is that the festival takes place “in the woods outside Berlin” – how’s that for something to plug into your GPS?
I can’t seem to find the words for how happy this makes me as a South African metalhead and how proud I am to be a Wildernessking supporter right now. In my opinion if there is a band in the country that needs to be heard by the rest of the world, it’s these guys. We wish the band all the best and can’t wait to hear all about it!
