Good things come to those who wait, and in spite of a two month delay (originally slated for April 2012), the Cape Town black metal quartet, Wildernessking have released their new EP, And the Night Swept Us Away.
Building on the success of their debut full lenth, The Writing of Gods in the Sand, their sophomore release features two new songs and an acoustic version of their song “Morning” which was originally released under the Heathens moniker.
“The sound on this EP is a more atmospheric and ambient one. We recorded an acoustic song for the first time…”, says frontman Keenan Oakes, “And we put everything together ourselves and added a few new elements to our sound. We feel that the cover art [by Stephen Green] captures the essence of the music and lyrical content.”
Despite being signed to Antithetic Records in the US, And the Night… is a completely independent endeavour, recorded by, produced and packaged by the band. They have an extremely limited run of forty physical copies available directly from the band at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Accompanying the release of the album is their first music video which captures the beauty of Cape Town’s various biomes. Watch the video below and stream the full album on Wildernessking‘s Bandcamp.
