Jackson Guitars, a musical instrument brand which emerged during the heyday of heavy metal’s rise to prominence and representative of one of the most iconic guitar shape innovations in the genre, has taken up a number of South African metal bands as endorsees over the years. Such includes the likes of Mind Assault, Infanteria and Adorned In Ash, but now also includes Zombies Ate My Girlfriend.
We kind of got the call out of nowhere one day. It was the week building up to the launch of Retrocide back in February. Chris and I have pretty much been playing Jackson Guitars since we started playing guitar. I guess all the noise we were generating from the album and our very vocal endorsement of the brand wasn’t falling on deaf ears. It was pretty nuts for us really. We were already in full excitement mode for the album launch and then this happened. Personally, I couldn’t be happier about being associated with one of my childhood fanboy guitar brands. You’re always striving for the unattainable and this is one of those things I thought would remain in the realms of dreams.” ~ Adriano Rodrigues (guitar, Zombies Ate My Girlfriend)
Chris, having also been playing on Jackson Guitars for many years prior to joining Zombies Ate My Girlfriend, was equally as pleased for both bands getting the wider recognition.
When I found out that Jackson were interested in sponsoring both Zombies Ate My Girfriend and Infanteria, I thought it was a big ‘wind up’ and there had to be some kind of catch, but once we met with them and finalized everything, it was an absolute dream come true. I had been a fan of Jackson Guitars since my very early teens watching Kirk Hammett play his Rhoads V during the 80s and Dave Mustaine rocking his King V. I had to have one and I’ve played Jackson Guitars exclusively since 2006. To officially be part of the family now is the cherry on the cake.” ~ Chris Hall (guitar, Zombies Ate My Girlfriend)
Whilst both guitarists have been playing the instrument brand for many years already, Jackson bass guitars are a little less of a common sight on stages; and Zombies Ate My Girlfriend have taken full advantage of their new endorsement.
“Since I’ve begun playing Jackson bass I’ve fallen in love with their natural tone and great playability. It’s a great honour to be sponsored by such a big name in the global scene.” ~ Marc Olwage (bass guitar, Zombies Ate My Girlfriend)
In celebration, the band recently created a playthrough video their song ‘Burn The Scene’ and featuring their delightful stringed toys. The band’s next live appearance will be a back-to-back showcase of all Burning Tone Records bands (including fellow Jackson Guitars endorsee band, Infanteria) with this year’s installation of Blitzkrieg on 31 October at Buckley’s, Bellville.
