Johannesburg, South Africa: we’re thrilled today to receive, finally, some new musical output from the powerful Sludge and Groove Metal band, The Drift.
After storming on to the live scene in 2014, the release of two critically albums and short break, The Drift is back with a new line-up, video and forthcoming album. ‘Seer’ is the title track taken from the new album which is set for release in September.
Seer: title track from the long awaited wrap of the ‘Deluge’ trilogy
The Drift delivered its debut album Dreams of Deluge late in 2013, along with the promise of a trilogy of albums; all linked somehow to the “Deluge” story arch. Of course, fans were left in consternation when The Drift announced a hiatus in 2016 after completing only two albums.
Things got complicated for band members after the release of the second album, The Mountain Star. With work and family commitments the band had to become more fluid to survive. Stefan Stabic had to leave; Alec Surridge stepped in to fill the void in guitars.
“After a two-year hiatus, this was the first track written when the pieces came back together. It was a fresh finish to an album that was mostly done, truly giving it a raw and unbiased musical perspective; so much so that it was chosen as the title track that kicks off the Deluge trilogy.” ~ Louis Du Pisani (vocals, The Drift)
Cape Town: WinterFest’19
As a seasoned touring band from an active bout between 2014 and 2016, The Drift has performed in Cape Town on many occasions. The first time was to support the mighty Lamb of God which visited from the USA in 2014. The last time, gracing the stage at M4A‘s own SummerFest’16.
Other shows and tours included with Unearth, Protest the Hero, Wolfmother, Affiance and Dreamshade to name only a few. The band caught the attention of its international peers, so much so that it attracted the following comment from one of them:
“These guys are at the forefront of the growing South African heavy music scene and are poised to spread their groove laden metal throughout the World!” ~ Trevor Phipps (Unearth)
