Cape Town, South Africa: the best news to arrive since the announcement of Judas Priest adding South Africa to the Firepower world tour is… the choice of local support bands to join the Cape Town and Johannesburg dates, announced by the promoter today. Choices of local support for the bigger international visitors to SA shores is almost always a point of contention among those who hold Metal closest to their hearts. This time, we feel that there can be little argument and only celebration. Big Concerts got it right!
L.A. Cobra and Deadline to support Judas Priest in South Africa
L.A. Cobra is scene veteran crème de la crème of big rock and hair metal in South Africa, having led this style locally since the early 2000’s. Whilst supporting the likes of Motley Crue might be a larger crown jewel for the band, Judas Priest is still a win of monolithic proportions for the band and fans alike.
Deadline, on the other hand, was birthed to do exactly this thing! Emerging onto the local live circuit in only more recent years, Deadline arrived all guns blazing; thick with attitude, rich with Heavy Metal heritage, and rising rapidly in the ranks of local Metal entertainment. South Africa simply doesn’t possess a more appropriate candidate to support the mighty Judas Priest.
Both local bands have enjoyed high activity in the last year, in both cases following album releases. L.A. Cobra unleashed a follow up to its riotous 2010 How Much Snake Can You Take album with Shotgun Slinger late last year. Deadline is barely finished celebrating the one year anniversary of its own full length debut with Black Wolf City.
Regretfully, Deadline will only play at its hometown show in Johannesburg, although the senior L.A. Cobra will grace both cities.
